U.S. 31-W Bypass widening, KY 234 to Park Street
The biggest job in town. KYTC began lane closures for the U.S. 31-W Bypass widening in late March 2026 on the stretch from KY 234 (Fairview Avenue) north to Park Street.
- Now: one through lane in each direction, with a single left-turn lane kept at the KY 234 intersection. KYTC warned of major delays and backups. Access to hospitals, medical offices and businesses stays open from the bypass.
- When finished: the four-lane road becomes five lanes, with a center two-way left-turn lane, an added through lane, longer left-turn lanes at KY 234 and a raised median near KY 234.
- Contractor: Scotty’s Contracting and Stone LLC, on a $7.4 million contract awarded in January 2026.
- Done: KYTC expects the work zone to stay until fall 2027.
KYTC’s live work zone feed also listed a northbound U.S. 31-W work zone between mile markers 13.7 and 14.2 in Warren County on Oct. 12, scheduled through Friday, Oct. 16.
KY 884 (Three Springs Road)
KYTC’s work zone feed lists an active northbound KY 884 work zone between mile markers 8.7 and 9.6 in Warren County. It began July 14, 2026, and is scheduled to run until Sept. 30, 2027. Street resurfacing
The city maintains about 569 lane miles of streets. The FY2026 resurfacing project, about $2 million with Scotty’s Contracting and Stone, is nearing completion, with 9.5 miles of streets finished. Streets that missed this round because of funding move to the FY2027 project. The street list is in the city’s FY26 resurfacing contract.
Sinkholes and karst
Bowling Green sits on karst, and sinkholes can close streets with little warning. In March 2026 a large sinkhole closed Cambridge Drive at Grinstead Way for about 30 days. Report a sinkhole to Public Works at 270-393-3628.
Leaf season parking
From Nov. 23 the city’s leaf crews work through 10 zones. Where parked cars block the work, the city may close streets to parking with 72 hours’ notice and temporary “No Parking” signs. Dates are in our trash and recycling guide.
