How to open a business in Bowling Green
The city’s Office of Occupational License says any person, partnership, corporation or other entity must register with the city before doing business inside the city limits, including nonprofits recognized by the IRS. The office also:
- bills the occupational license tax, now 2% after the Board of Commissioners raised it from 1.85% effective Jan. 1, 2024;
- registers transient businesses, contractors, professional services and peddlers, with fees based on days and number of workers;
- handles alcoholic beverage licenses, which need both city and state applications and normally take about five weeks. Call 270-393-3000 for an appointment.
Restaurants and food trucks also need a food permit and plan review from the health department; see our restaurant inspections guide.
How we build this page
